Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.

1. What Helituspan is and what it is used for

Helituspan is a herbal medicine which contains extract of ivy leaves and belongs to the group of medicines called expectorants. They are used to help elimination of the mucus and phlegm from respiratory tract and thus relieve productive cough.
If complaints persist, or you have shortness of breath, fever or bloody or purulent phlegm, consult a doctor immediately!
You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better after 7 days or if you feel worse.

2. What you need to know before you take Helituspan Do not take Helituspan

-   if you are allergic to ivy leaves extract or to plants of the Ivy (Araliaceae) family or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Do not give Helituspan to your child

-   if your child is under 2 years of age.

Warnings and precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Helituspan:
-   if you have gastritis (inflamation of the lining of the stomach) or have a gastric ulcer (stomach ulcer);
-   if you are already taking medicine to help you stop coughing such as codeine or dextromethorphane;
-   if you have shortness of breath, fever, bloody or purulent phlegm.

Children and adolescents

Talk to your doctor before giving Helituspan to your child:
-   if your child is between 2 - 4 years of age and has persistent or recurrent cough.

Other medicines and Helituspan

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines. This includes medicines obtained without prescription.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
The safety of ivy leaf containing products during pregnancy and breast-feeding has not been confirmed. For that reason, Helituspan is not recommended for use during pregnancy and breast-feeding.

Driving and using machines

There is no evidence of the effect of ivy leaf containing medicines on the ability to drive and use machines.

Helituspan contains sorbitol

2.5 ml of the syrup contains 0.963 g sorbitol (equivalent to 0.08 BEU).
If you have been told by a doctor that you or your child has intolerance to some sugars, you should contact a doctor before taking this medicine or giving this medicine to your child. Due to the content of sorbitol, the syrup may have mild laxative effect.

3. How to take Helituspan

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Helituspan is for oral use only. Helituspan should be taken in the morning, at midday and in the evening or in the morning and in the evening.
Shake the bottle well before use.
Use the enclosed measuring cup for dosing.
The recommended dose is:
Age
Single dose
Daily dose
Children between 2-5 years of age
2.5 ml, equivalent to 17.5 mg ivy leaf dry extract
5 ml (2.5 ml two times daily), equivalent to 35 mg ivy leaf dry extract
Children between 6-12 years of age
5 ml, equivalent to 35 mg ivy leaf dry extract
10 ml (5 ml two times daily), equivalent to 70 mg ivy leaf dry extract
Adolescents over 12 years of age, adults and elderly
5 ml, equivalent to 35 mg ivy leaf dry extract
15 ml (5 ml three times daily), equivalent to 105 mg ivy leaf dry extract
Duration of treatment
If your complaints still do not get better after 7 days or even get worse, you should consult a doctor. Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of Helituspan is too strong or too weak.

If you take more Helituspan than you should

If you take more Helituspan than you should you may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea or feel excitable. If this happens consult your doctor and bring this leaflet with you.

If you forget to take Helituspan

Take your next dose in the usual time. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following frequencies are used in evaluating side effects:
Common side effects (may affect up to 1 to 10 people):
nausea (feeling sick in the stomach), vomiting, diarrhoea.
Uncommon side effects (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
allergic reactions (hives, skin rash, dilated capillaries on the face, difficulty breathing).

If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. You can also report side effects directly via www.ravimiamet.ee . By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.

5. How to store Helituspan

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
This medicine does not require any special storage conditions.
Shelf life after opening the bottle: 6 (six) months.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not throw away any medicines via waste water or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.

6. Contents of the pack and other information What Helituspan contains

-   The active substance is Hedera helix L., folium (ivy leaf) dry extract. 1 ml of syrup contains active substance 7 mg ivy leaf dry extract (5-7.5:1), extraction solvent: ethanol 30% (m/m).
-   The other excipients are: xanthan gum (E415), sorbitol (E420), citric acid monohydrate (E330), potassium sorbate (E202), liquid flavour “Lemon” (cis-citral (neral), trans-citral (geranial), lemon oil and propylene glycol E1520), purified water.

What Helituspan looks like and contents of the pack

120 ml syrup in dark brown glass bottle or in dark brown PET bottle closed with polyethylene screw cap. The package contains polypropylene measuring cup with measuring marks 2.5 ml, 5 ml, 7.5 ml, 10 ml, 15 ml and 20 ml.
Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
