1. What Enterol is and what it is used for

Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM-I745 is a yeast that turns into a viable form in the gastrointestinal tract and by its biological characteristics are similar to the protective characteristics of normal intestinal flora.
The main effects of Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM-I745 in prevention and treatment of diarrhoea:
-   inhibition of pathological effects of certain micro-organisms and/or their toxins, especially Clostridium difficile (one of the main causes of diarrhea caused by antibiotics) and Vibrio cholerae - typical toxin-producing bacteria causing secretory diarrhoea;
-   trophic and immune-stimulating effect on the gastrointestinal tract, increasing significantly the total and special effect of intestinal disaccharides (sucrase, maltase and lactase); in animal tests, increases the concentration of secretory IgA in the intestinal mucosa.

Indications

Intestinal function disorders, including diarrhoea, caused by intestinal microflora changes. Prevention and treatment of diarrhoea caused by antibiotic treatment.
During treatment with vancomycin or metronidazole additionally to prevent the recurrence of diarrhoea caused by Clostridium difficile.
You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse.

2. What you need to know before you take Enterol Do not take Enterol

-   if you are allergic to Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM-I745 or any of the other ingredients of Enterol (listed in section 6).
-   if you have a central venous catheter.
-   If you are immunosuppressed (due to severe disease or immune system disorders / weakened immune system) or currently hospitalised

Warnings and precautions

-   if you have a surgical operation of abdominal cavity done during Enterol treatment, as there may be a risk of developing Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM-I745 sepsis.
-   Enterol treatment does not replace the substitution of liquid lost with diarrhoea or rehydration, if this would be required.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Enterol.

Other medicines and Enterol

As Enterol contains yeasts, it should not be administered together with antifungal medicines.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using, have recently used, or might use any other medicines.

Enterol with food, drink, and alcohol

As Enterol contains live cells, it should be not mixed with very hot water (above 50°C), icy water, alcoholic drinks, or frozen food.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

The medicine may be used during pregnancy and breast-feeding.
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

3. How to take Enterol

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The recommended dose of the powder is:

For treatment, the contents of 1 or 2 sachets are administered mixed with liquid 1-2 times a day. After mixing with liquid, the powder should be drunk at once.
The contents of the sachet may be mixed with food or poured into an infant’s feeding bottle, mixed with a small amount of water or sweetened drink.

The recommended dose of capsules is:

1 or 2 capsules 1-2 times a day. The capsule should be swallowed whole with a sufficient amount of water or capsule content mixed with a small amount of sweetened drink. The contents of the capsule may be also mixed with food or poured into an infant’s feeding bottle.
For children under 6 years old, it is recommended to open the capsule and mix the content with food or sweetened drink (the capsule may become stuck in the throat of a small child).
As Enterol contains live cells, it should be not mixed with very hot water (above 50°C), icy water, alcoholic drinks, or frozen food.
Treatment should be started as soon as possible after initiating antibiotic treatment.
The duration of the treatment course depends on the severity of your disease.
Maximum duration of treatment is 4 weeks.

If you take more Enterol than you should

There are no data about overdosing.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Enterol can have side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Rarely, gastrointestinal disorders may occur that do not require treatment cessation.
Very rarely occurring side effects: infection of the blood with fungi (fungaemia)

5. How to store Enterol

Store in the original package in order to protect from moisture.

Store in the original package in order to protect from moisture.
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use Enterol after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after ‘EXP’. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.

6. Contents of the pack and other information What Enterol contains

-   The active substance is Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM-I745.
One sachet contains powder that contains 282.5 mg of lyophilised Saccharomyces boulardii CNCM-I745 culture (corresponds to 250 mg of yeast and 32.50 mg of lactose).

-   The other excipients are:
Powder excipients: fructose (levulose), silica colloidal anhydrous, artificial fragrance.

What Enterol looks like and contents of the pack

Powder: 765 mg of powder in a paper-aluminium-polyethylene laminate sachet, 10 or 20 sachets in a carton.
Capsule: 10, 20, 30, or 50 capsules in a capped clear polyethylene glass bottle or PVC/aluminium blister pack.
Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
