1. What Broncophen Aerol is and what it is used for

Broncophen Aerol is an oromucosal spray solution that contains common thyme extract and sage leaf liquid extract as active ingredients.
It is a traditional herbal medicine that is used as a soothing agent in upper respiratory tract infections with concomitant oral or pharyngeal inflammation.
This medicine is a traditional herbal medicine, which indication is based on long-term use experience. You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 7 days.

2. What you need to know before you use Broncophen Aerol What you need to know before you use Broncophen Aerol

If you are allergic to common thyme, sage or any other plants from the mint family or any other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).

Warnings and precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Broncophen Aerol
-   Not to be sprayed into eye or nose.
-   Not to be sprayed near open flames.
-   If you experience dyspnoea, fever or pus in your sputum, you should turn to a doctor.

Children and adolescents

The medicine is not recommended for children under 18 years of age as there are no sufficient data for this age group.

Other medicines and Broncophen Aerol

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using, have recently used or might use any other medicines.
No interaction studies of Broncophen Aerol with other medicines have been conducted.
Taking sage leaf products may influence the effect of medicines acting on the GABA receptor (e.g. barbiturates and benzodiazepines), although this has not been reported clinically up to date. Therefore, it is not recommended to take Broncophen Aerol with these medicines.

Broncophen Aerol with food and drink

There are no study data on the effect of food and drink on the medicine.

Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Broncophen Aerol should not be used during pregnancy and lactation, because of insufficient data. Driving and using machines
Broncophen Aerol has no effect on the ability to drive and use machines.

Broncophen Aerol contains alcohol

This medical product contains a small amount of alcohol (ethanol): less than 100 mg per dose (60% V/V).
If you are addicted to alcohol, do not use Broncophen Aerol.

3. How to take Broncophen Aerol

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
If you have not been prescribed differently, use the spray 2-4 times in 24 h by spraying it into mouth and pharynx; on every dosing push the spray once or twice.
Administration:
Ready for spraying (during administration)
-   Elevate the turnable end of the spray pump to a right angle (see image).
-   Direct the turnable end or the spray to the administration site in the mouth. The end of the spray pump is easily turnable.
-   Spray Broncophen Aerol by pushing on the spray repeatedly.
-   After each administration turn the end back again; this way you will close the spray pump (see image).

Use in children and adolescents

It is not recommended to use this medicine in children and adolescents because of insufficient data.

If you use more Broncophen Aerol than you should

Cases of overdose have been reported, if doses containing more than 15 g of sage leaf were administered. The following symptoms may occur in these cases
-   Hot flushes
-   Fast heartbeat,
-   Dizziness.
-   Seizures.
In case of overdose contact a doctor. He/she will recommend appropriate therapeutic measures.

If you forget to take Broncophen Aerol

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

If you stop using Broncophen Aerol

If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Medical products containing common thyme have been associated with hypersensitivity reactions (including one anaphylactic shock case and one Quincke oedema case) and gastric irritation.
Due to the alcohol content, a transient burning sensation may be felt in inflamed regions.
The incidence of side effects is not known.

5.   How to store Broncophen Aerol

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Store below 30 °C.
Store in the outer package, protected from light.
After first opening the shelf life is 8 weeks.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the label and package. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.

6.   Contents of the pack and other information What Broncophen Aerol contains

-   The active substances are common thyme herbal liquid extract and sage leaf liquid extract.
-   The other ingredients are:
Peppermint leaf liquid extract (1:4-6), extractor ethanol 70% V/V,
menthol, saccharin sodium (E 954), hydroxypropyl cellulose, ethanol (alcohol) (60%), purified water.
1 ml of the solution contains:
290 mg of common thyme herbal liquid extract (1:4-6), extractor ethanol 70% V/V,
290 mg of sage leaf liquid extract (1:4-6), extractor ethanol 70% V/V,
1 spray = 0.14 ml.

What Broncophen Aerol looks like and contents of the pack

Broncophen Aerol oromucosal spray is a clear brown solution with a characteristic smell and taste. The oromucosal spray is available in amber-yellow glass bottles, which are equipped with spray pump and a prolonged spray end.
The package contains a bottle with 15 mL of the solution (enough for at least 100 administrations)
