Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
-   Keep this leaflet. You may need to read it again.

1. What Theraflu NT is and what it is used for

Theraflu NT includes 4 active substances for treating flu and cold symptoms:
-   paracetamol is a pain killer (analgesic) and fever reducer (reduces your temperature when you have a fever),
-   pseudoephedrine hydrochloride is a nasal decongestant,
-   dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant,
-   chlorine pheniramine maleate is an antihistamine for relieving respiratory allergy symptoms.
Theraflu NT is used in adults and young people aged over 16 years for short-term relief of cold and flu symptoms (nasal congestion, pain, headache and/or fever, cough).

2. What you need to know before you use Theraflu NT

Do NOT take Theraflu NT:

-   if you are allergic to paracetamol, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, dextromethorphanhydrobromide, hlorpheniramine maleate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6 and 2),
-   if you are taking or have taken in the last 14 days monoamine oxidase inhibitors (medicines used to treat depression or Parkinson’s disease). If you do not know whether your prescription medicine includes MAO inhibitors, consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.

Warnings and precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Theraflu NT if you:
-   suffer from kidney or liver disease,
-   have a hereditary condition called glucose-6-phosphatedehydrogenase deficiency or a certain type of anaemia called haemolytic anaemia,
-   are suffering from dehydration or chronic malnutrition,
-   have heart problems, such as fast heart rate or high blood pressure (hypertension),
-   suffer from hyperthyroidism or diabetes,
-   have an enlarged prostate,
-   suffer from mental disorders (psychoses),
-   suffer from glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye),
-   are at risk of respiratory insufficiency,
-   have a gastrointestinal tract congestion,
-   suffer from peptic ulcers,
-   have epilepsy.
If you are scheduled for a surgery, it is advisable to stop treatment a couple of days before the surgery, because Theraflu NT can increase the risk of high blood pressure in combination with certain anaesthetics.
Athletes should be informed that the medicine contains an active substance that can cause a false positive result in doping tests.
Theraflu NT contains paracetamol. Do not use with other medicines containing paracetamol. Severe liver damage can occur if you exceed the maximum daily dose of paracetamol.
The risk of liver damage may be higher in chronic alcohol users. In such patients, the maximum daily dose may not exceed 2,000 mg of paracetamol and the interval between uses must be at least 8 hours. The daily dose of paracetamol in patients with liver or renal damage may not exceed 3,000 mg.
Stop using Theraflu NT and contact your doctor immediately or seek medical advice if you develop feverish, full-body skin retention (erythema) with pustules. See section 4.

Consult with your doctor if:

-   you suffer from cough with excessive sputum discharge,
-   you suffer from long-term or chronic cough in combination with asthma, emphysema or chronic bronchitis,
-   you have fever for more than three days,
-   your pain, cough or nasal congestion deteriorates or last longer than five days or is accompanied by high fever, skin rash or persistent headache.
These can be symptoms of a more severe conditions.

Other medicines and Theraflu NT

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines, in particular:
-   MAO inhibitors which are used to treat depression and Parkinson’s disease: if you are taking or have taken MAOIs within 14 days, do not use Theraflu NT.
-   medicines used to treat depression, such as tricyclic antidepressants or serotonin reuptake inhibitors;
-   medicines for high blood pressure;
-   quinidine and amiodarone (used for regulating hearth rhythms),
-   medicines for thinning the blood (anticoagulants), such as warfarin and coumarin,
-   other cold medicines that contain paracetamol and nasal decongestants,
-   medicines for nausea and vomiting, such as metoclopramide or domperidone.
-   medicines for tuberculosis (rifampicin and izoniazid), for bacterial infections (chloramphenicol),
-   medicines used to treat seizures, such as phenytoin, phenobarbital and carbamazepine,
-   cholestyramine, used to lower lipid levels in blood,
-   zidovudin, used for the treatment of HIV infections,
-   probenecid, used to treat gout,
-   ergotamine and methylsergide, used for migraine,
-   haloperidol, used for the treatment of psychiatric conditions,
-   other medicines that can induce drowsiness, such as sleep medication, tranquilisers, antianxiety drugs, antipsychotics, anti-vomiting medication, opioid painkillers, seizure medication and hypnotic medicines,
-   anticholinergic medicines (some psychotropic drugs, atropine and medicines for urine retention.

Theraflu NT with alcohol

Do not drink alcohol while using this Theraflu NT.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

It is not recommended to take Theraflu NT during pregnancy and breast-feeding. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Driving and using machines

The product may cause drowsiness; exercise extra caution when driving or operating precision machines after taking the medicine.

Important information about some of the ingredients in Theraflu NT

-   30 mg aspartame (E951) per sachet; it is a source of phenylalanine, which may be harmful for patients with phenylketonuria.
-   6.9 g sucrose per sachet. This should be taken into account for patients with diabetes. This medicine must not be used by patients with rare hereditary fructose intolerance, glucose/galactose malabsorption syndrome or sucrase/isomaltase deficiency.

3. How to use Theraflu NT

Always use Theraflu NT exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Adults and adolescents aged 16 years and above:

One sachet every 6 hours. Do not take more than 4 sachets in any 24-hour period.
Theraflu NT is intended for nighttime use. Theraflu ND should be taken in daytime to relieve symptoms during the day. These medicines may not be taken simultaneously.
The maximum permitted dose when using either one medicine or a combination of Theraflu NT and ND is up to 4 sachets of powder for up to 5 days.
Talk to your doctor if symptoms persist or deteriorate after 5 days or fever persists for more than 3 days.

Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Not recommended for children under 16 years of age.

How to take Theraflu NT

Dissolve the content of one sachet in a cupful (250 mL) of hot (but not boiling) water. Drink when cooled to an acceptable temperature.

If you take more Theraflu NT than you should

If you accidentally take too much, seek medical attention. Even if you feel well, immediate medical attention is critical because of the risk of delayed serious liver damage.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Stop taking this medicine if you experience:

-   allergic reactions, including wheezing, irregular breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat;
-   skin rash (including blisters, itching), redness of the skin;
-   unusual bleeding or bruising (problems with blood);
-   skin peeling, blisters, mouth ulcers,
severe skin reactions.
These side effects are rare or very rare (may affect up to 1-10 in 10,000 people).
The following side effects are common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):
-   sleepiness (drowsiness).
Other side effects may occur in rare cases (they may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):
-   nervousness, sleeplessness,
-   anxiety, restlessness,
-   seeing, sensing or hearing unreal things (especially in children),
-   dizziness, headache, tremor,
-   fast heartbeat, palpitations, high blood pressure,
-   digestive tract disorders, such as nausea, vomiting, dry mouth,
-   urine retention (especially in patients with enlarged prostate),
-   in rare cases, abnormal laboratory results (values) for liver function may be observed.
Some side effects are very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people):
-   sleepiness (drowsiness),
-   stomach discomfort.
Unknown (incidence cannot be estimated from available data)
-   Fever, reddening of the skin or a lot of small swelling (may be symptoms of acute generalized exanthema pustulosis) may unexpectantly happen on the first two days of treatment with Theraflu ND. See section 2.
If you develop these symptoms, stop using Sudafed and contact your doctor immediately or seek medical advice.

5. How to store Theraflu NT

Do not store above 25°C.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Keep this out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment

6. Contents of the pack and other information What Theraflu NT contains

The active substances are: paracetamol, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, chlorpheniramine maleate and dextromethorphanhydrobromide. One sachet of soluble powder contains 1,000 mg of paracetamol, 60 mg of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, 4 mg of chlorine pheniramine maleate, and 30 mg of dextromethorphan hydrobromide as active substances.
Excipients include: anhydrous citric acid, natural lemon flavour, hydrated colloidal silica, sodium citrate dihydrate, sucrose, tricalcium phosphate, quinoline yellow, maltodextrin, aspartame, potassium acesulfame, natural component Durarome 861.403/TD 10.90.

What Theraflu NT looks like and contents of the pack

Theraflu NT is a powder for oral solution, packaged in small packets (sachets). Whitish coarse, granular, pourable powder that may contain yellow particles.
After dissolution: cloudy yellow solution.
Sachet (LDPE/AL/LDPE/PET/ paper).
6 or 10 sachets per pack.
