Read all of this leaflet carefully before you start taking this medicine because it contains important information for you.

Always take Theraflu SN exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
•   Keep this leaflet. You may need to read it again.
•   Ask your pharmacist if you need more information or advice.
•   If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet.
•   You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 3 days.

1.   What Theraflu SN is and what it is used for

Theraflu SN contains two active ingredients:
•   paracetamol is a pain killer (analgesic) and fever reducer (reduces your temperature when you have a fever).
•   pseudoephedrine hydrochloride is a nasal decongestant. It unblocks your stuffy nose and helps you breathe more easily by reducing the swelling in the nasal passages. It also relieves sinus pressure.
Theraflu SN is used for the short-term relief of nasal congestion (blocked nose), sinus congestion (sinus pressure) associated with the symptoms of colds and flu, such as: aches and pains, headache and/or fever.
This medicine is recommended in adults and adolescents aged 15 years and above.
Talk to your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 3 days.
If you have only one of the symptoms mentioned above it may be more appropriate to take a medicine that contains only one of the active substances.

2.   What you need to know before you take Theraflu SN Do NOT take Theraflu SN if you:

•   are allergic to paracetamol, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, menthol or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6),
•   are allergic to peanut or soya, as this medicine contains lecithin soya (E322),
•   have heart disease, severe coronary artery disease or high blood pressure (hypertension),
•   have an overactive thyroid,
•   have closed-angle glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye),
•   have urinary retention,
•   have pheochromocytoma (a type of tumour of the adrenal glands located near the kidneys),
•   are taking or have taken in the last 2 weeks monoamine oxidase inhibitors (medicines used to treat depression or Parkinson’s disease),
•   are taking tricyclic antidepressants,
•   are taking beta blockers (medicines used in the treatment of high blood pressure and heart problems),
•   are taking other sympathomimetic drugs such as decongestants, appetite suppressants and amphetamine-like psychostimulants.
•   are pregnant.
Warning and precautions
Contains paracetamol. Do NOT take with any other paracetamol-containing products. Severe liver damage may occur if you exceed the maximum daily dose of paracetamol.
In long-term, high-dose, incorrect use of painkillers, headaches may occur which should not be treated with higher doses of analgesics.
In general, habitual intake of painkillers, particularly a combination of several analgesic substances, can lead to permanent renal damage with the risk of renal failure.
Abrupt discontinuation following long-term, high-dose, incorrect use of painkillers may lead to headaches, fatigue, muscle pain, nervousness and autonomic symptoms. These withdrawal symptoms resolve within a few days. Until this time, avoid further intake of painkillers and do not restart them without medical advice.
Do not take with any other flu, cold or decongestant product.
Do not take alcoholic beverages while using this medicine.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Theraflu SN if you:
•   suffer from chronic cough, asthma or emphysema (disease of the lungs),
•   suffer from kidney problems,
•   suffer from liver problems,
•   have cardiovascular problems,
•   suffer from diabetes,
•   have an enlarged prostate, as you may have urine retention,
•   have a blood circulation problem (such as Raynaud’s syndrome),
•   have mild jaundice (Gilbert’s syndrome),
•   suffer from glucose-6-phosphatedehydrogenase deficiency (enzyme deficiency),
•   have abnormal breakdown of red blood cells (haemolytic anaemia),
•   are suffering from dehydration or chronic malnutrition,
•   suffer from psychosis.

Children and adolescents

Do not give this medicine to children below 15 years of age.
Older people
These patients may be particularly sensitive to central nervous system effects of pseudoephedrine.
Warning concerning doping misuse
Pseudoephedrine may induce positive results in certain anti-doping tests.

Other medicines and Theraflu SN

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines, in particular:
•   monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), used to treat depression and Parkinson’s disease: if you are taking or have taken MAOIs within 14 days, do not use Theraflu SN.
•   tricyclic antidepressants used to treat depression.
•   high blood pressure medicines, such as beta-blockers.
•   medicines used to treat heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms (digoxin and other cardiac glycosides).
•   medicines for thinning the blood (anticoagulants), such as warfarin or other coumarins.
•   medicines for nausea and vomiting, such as metoclopramide or domperidone.
•   medicines for tuberculosis (rifampicin and isoniazid), for bacterial infections (chloramphenicol, linezolide).
•   medicines used to treat seizures, such as lamotrigine, phenytoin, phenobarbital and carbamazepine.
•   cholestyramine, used to lower cholesterol.
•   zidovudin (AZT), used for the treatment of HIV infection (AIDS).
•   probenecid used to treat gout.
•   ergotamine and methylsergide, used for migraine.
•   medicines containing paracetamol or decongestants for colds and flu.
•   medicines used to treat fever or mild pain (acetylsalicylic acid, salicylates).
•   halogenated anesthetics used in anesthesia before surgery.
Tell your doctor that you are taking this medicine if you perform urine or blood sugar tests.
Theraflu SN with food, drink and alcohol
Do not drink alcohol while using this medicine.
This medicine can be taken with or without food.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
Do not take Theraflu SN if you are pregnant.
Do not take Theraflu SN during breastfeeding.

Driving and using machines

This product may cause dizziness. If you feel dizzy, do not drive or operate machinery.

Important information about some of the ingredients in this medicine

Theraflu SN contains:
  Sucrose: If you have been told by your doctor that you have intolerance to some sugars, contact
your doctor before taking this medicinal product. This medicinal product contains 6.9 g of sucrose per dose. This should also be taken into account in patients with diabetes mellitus.
  Aspartame (E951) (38 mg per sachet), contains a source of phenylalanine, which may be
harmful for people with phenylketonuria (enzyme deficiency to breakdown phenylalanine).
  Sodium: this medicinal product contains 1.52 mmol (or 35 mg) per dose, to be taken into
consideration by patients on a controlled sodium diet.
  Allura red AC (E129), Sunset yellow (E110), azo colouring agents. They may cause allergic
reactions.

3. How to take Theraflu SN

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
For adults and adolescents 15 years and over:
The recommended dose is one sachet every 4 to 6 hours as needed. Do not take more than 4 sachets in any 24 hour period (corresponding to 2000 mg of paracetamol and 120 mg of pseudoephedrine).

Do not exceed the stated dose.

Patients with hepatic disease
In patients with impaired liver, the dose must be reduced or the dosing interval prolonged. Ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine.

Use in children and adolescents

Do not give to children below 15 years of age.

How to take Theraflu SN

For oral use.
Dissolve the content of one sachet in a standard mug of hot, but not boiling, water (approximately 250 ml). Drink when cooled to an acceptable temperature.
Do not use for more than 3 days. Tell your doctor if symptoms persist after 3 days or worsen.
If you take more Theraflu SN than you should
If you accidentally take too much, seek medical attention immediately, even if you feel well, because of the risk of delayed, serious liver damage.
If you forget to take Theraflu SN
If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. Then continue treatment as recommended. Always leave an interval of at least 4 hours between two doses. Never take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Possible side effects of paracetamol:
STOP taking this medicine and tell a doctor or pharmacist immediately if you experience:
•   allergic reactions, including wheezing, shortness of breath, swelling of the face or mouth,
•   skin rash (including hives, itching), redness of the skin,
•   skin peeling, blisters, sores, mouth ulcers,
•   blood problems, including unusual bleeding or bruising.
The above side effects are rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people) or very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people). In particular, serious skin reactions are very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people).
Other side effects may occur in rare cases (they may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people). If you experience any of the following, tell your doctor:
•   liver problems (hepatic disorders). In rare cases, abnormal laboratory values for liver function may also be observed,
•   stomach pain or discomfort (diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting),
Possible side effects of pseudoephedrine:
STOP taking this medicine and tell a doctor or pharmacist immediately if you experience:
•   high blood pressure, palpitations (fast heartbeat),
•   sleep disturbance, restlessness nervousness, irritability, confusion, sensing unreal things (hallucinations),
•   skin rash (including hives, itching), redness of the skin,
•   difficulty in urinating.
Other side effects may occur in rare cases (they may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people). If you experience any of the following, tell your doctor:
• dry mouth

If you get any side effects talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. You can also report side effects directly via the national reporting system listed in www.ravimiamet.ee. By reporting side effects you can help provide more information on the safety of this medicine.

5.   How to store Theraflu SN

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the sachet and the carton after EXP. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not store above 25°C.
Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.

6.   Contents of the pack and other information What Theraflu SN contains

The active substances are: paracetamol and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride.
Each sachet contains paracetamol 500 mg and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride 30 mg.
The other ingredients are: sucrose, aspartame (E951), blueberry flavour (contains lecithin soya), raspberry flavour (contains lecithin soya), cranberry flavour (contains lecithin soya), menthol flavour (contains lecithin soya), green tea flavour (contains lecithin soya), citric acid anhydrous, sodium citrate (E331), disodium edetate, acesulfame potassium, maltodextrin, silica colloidal hydrated, Sunset yellow (E110), Allura red AC (E129) and Brilliant blue FCF (E133). (See also end of section 2 for information on some of these ingredients).
What Theraflu SN looks like and contents of the pack
This medicine is a 9.2 g granular powder for oral solution, composed of free flowing white to off-white powder that may contain brown granules, packed in individual sachets.
Theraflu SN powder for oral solution is available in packs of 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 sachets.
Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
