1. What Prospan is and what it is used for
PROSPAN is used to loosen mucus.
2. What you need to know before you take Prospan Do not take PROSPAN:
- if you are allergic to Hedera helix or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6). - if you have fructose intolerance. In that case, only use the medicine after consulting with your doctor. Patients with diabetes: one tablet contains 0.03 BU.

Other medicines and Prospan
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using or have recently used or might use any other medicines. There are no reports of possible side effects during concomitant use of PROSPAN and other medicines (incl. antibiotics).
Prospan with food and drink
No specific precautions apply.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Driving and using machines
PROSPAN is considered to be safe medicine that is unlikely to produce an effect on the ability to drive and use machines.
PROSPAN contains sodium and lactose.
One effervescent tablet contains 6.58 mmol (or 151.33 mg) of sodium. This must be considered in patients on controlled sodium diet. Tablets contain lactose. If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
3. How to take Prospan
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. Unless otherwise prescribed by doctor, the following dosage instructions will apply to PROSPAN effervescent cough tablets. Please follow the instructions, otherwise the effervescent cough tablets may be ineffective. - Adults and adolescents older than 12 years: 1 effervescent tablet twice a day - Children aged 4-12 years: 0.5 effervescent tablets 3 times a day. Disperse the tablet in 1 glass (ca 200 mL) of water. Tablets can be dispersed in hot and cold water. Duration of treatment depends on the clinical findings and severity of the disease, but even with milder respiratory inflammations, the treatment with PROSPAN tablets should last for at least one week and treatment should be continued for another 2-3 days after symptoms resolve to ensure lasting therapeutic outcome. If symptoms persist or if you develop shortness of breath, fever, and mucus containing pus or blood, contact your doctor immediately. If you have the impression that the effect of PROSPAN is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
If you take more Prospan than you should
You should not exceed recommended dose. Taking much higher doses (more than triple daily dose) of medicine may cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
If you forget to take Prospan
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects. In very rare cases (less than 1 in 10,000 patients), patients may develop allergic reaction. In very rare cases, the product may have laxative effect due to sorbitol content.

5. How to store Prospan
This medicine does not require any special storage conditions. Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
6. Contents of the pack and other information What PROSPAN contains
- The active substance is Hedera helix dry extract [5-7.5:1]. 1 PROSPAN scored effervescent cough tablet contains 65 mg ivy leaf dry extract [5-7.5:1], [30% ethanol extract]. - The other ingredients are anhydrous citric acid; sodium bicarbonate; anhydrous sodium carbonate; mannitol; simethicone; sodium saccharin; sodium cyclamate; sodium citrate; sorbitol; medium chain triglycerides; polyoxyl 40 hydrogenated castor oil; orange flavouring.

White effervescent tables with a score line. Package contains 10 tablets. Every tablet is packaged in a separate aluminium blister.
