1. What Bepanthen ointment is and what it is used forDexpanthenol, the active ingredient of Bepanthen ointment, is transformed into pantothenic acid in cells and functions as Vitamin B5. Dexpanthenol has the advantage of improved absorption in case of local administration. Pantothenic acid plays a vital role in cell metabolism. The human organism needs pantothenic acid for the regeneration of skin and mucous membranes.

2. What you need to know before you use Bepanthen ointment Do not use Bepanthen ointment:- if you are allergic to dexpanthenol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Pregnancy and breast-feedingUsing Bepanthen ointment is not contraindicated during pregnancy or breast-feeding. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using the medicine.
3. How to use Bepanthen ointment• For new-born skin care, the cream is applied onto the skin when changing a diaper. • Can be applied to nipples after nursing. • For the treatment of superficial injuries, skin abrasions and skin fissures, apply onto the skin one or several times per day as necessary. • For facilitating healing and epithelisation or regular skin care, apply onto the skin one or several times per day as necessary. Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. Bepanthen ointment has a high fat content, making it suitable for use on dry skin or forming a protective layer on the skin. Bepanthen cream, a light (aqueous) and rapidly absorbing formulation, is recommended for the treatment of exposed body parts (hands, elbows and the face). For the treatment of wounds that have become infected or are at a risk of infection, it is recommended to use Bepanthen Plus cream containing both an anti-septic agent and dexpanthenol.
4. Possible side effectsLike all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Allergic skin reactions have been reported in very rare cases. Talk to your doctor if this is the case.

5. How to use Bepanthen ointmentDo not store at a temperature higher than 25 °C. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and tube after “EXP”. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.
6. Contents of the pack and other information What Bepanthen ointment contains- The active substance is dexpanthenol. 1 g of ointment contains 0.05 g of dexpanthenol. - The excipients are protegin X (liquid paraffin, vaseline, wax, glyceryl oleate, lanolin alcohol), cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, white beeswax, lanolin, white vaseline, almond oil, liquid paraffin, purified water.
