1. What Magnesium Diasporal 300 is and what it is used for

Magnesium Diasporal 300 is used to prevent and treat magnesium deficiency.
Magnesium Diasporal 300 contains magnesium citrate as the active substance, which the body absorbs well. Magnesium is an essential mineral substance which is not synthesised in the body. Therefore, it is important to administer magnesium with food. If your diet is low in magnesium, you may develop magnesium deficiency. As a suppressor of excitability, magnesium regulates and stabilises heart rate, supports muscle cell function and thereby prevents muscle spasms.
More than 300 enzymes that need magnesium to function participate in metabolism. Magnesium also reduces the secretion of stress hormones (e.g. adrenalin) and balances the increased magnesium requirement in stressful situations.

2. What you need to know before you use Magnesium Diasporal 300 Do not use Magnesium Diasporal 300

-   if you are allergic to magnesium citrate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
-   if you have severe hepatic impairment.

Warnings and precautions

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Magnesium Diasporal 300.

Children

Studies have not been carried out in children.

Other medicines and Magnesium Diasporal 300

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
Aminoglycoside antibiotics, cisplatin and cyclosporine A increase magnesium secretion. Magnesium, iron, fluorides and tetracycline mutually influence each other’s absorption.
An interval of 2-3 hours must be left between the administration of Magnesium Diasporal 300 and preparations containing the above-listed substances.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

Magnesium Diasporal 300 may be used during pregnancy and breast-feeding.
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Driving and using machines

Magnesium Diasporal 300 has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Magnesium Diasporal 300 contains sucrose

If you have been told by your doctor that you have intolerance to some sugars, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine. One sachet of granules equals 0.2 bread units.

3.   How to use Magnesium Diasporal 300

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is 1 sachet (295.7 mg of magnesium) a day.
Dissolve a sachet of granules in half a glass of juice, tea or water and drink immediately after preparation. If dissolved in water, the solution is a clear to slightly cloudy, yellow liquid.
If the effect of Magnesium Diasporal 300 granules is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

If you take more Magnesium Diasporal 300 than you should

A patient with normal hepatic function will not develop poisoning symptoms from an oral magnesium overdose.

If you forget to take Magnesium Diasporal 300

Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

If you stop taking Magnesium Diasporal 300

It has no effect.

4.   Possible side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Uncommon (may affect 1-10 users in 1,000): at the beginning of treatment with Magnesium Diasporal 300, patients may develop soft stools to diarrhoea.
These side effects are harmless and recede without assistance.
If you develop diarrhoea, discontinue the treatment temporarily. You may restart treatment with reduced doses after symptoms improve and/or disappear.

5. How to store Magnesium Diasporal 300

Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use Magnesium Diasporal 300 after the expiry date which is stated on the package. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.

6. Contents of the pack and other information What Magnesium Diasporal 300 contains

The active substance is magnesium citrate.
One sachet (5 g) contains 1,830 mg of magnesium citrate, which equals 295.7 mg of magnesium (12 mmol, 24 mEq).
The other ingredients are sucrose, anhydrous citric acid, sodium hydrogen carbonate, riboflavin (E 101), orange flavouring and maltodextrin.

What Magnesium Diasporal 300 looks like and contents of the pack

Yellow granules with a characteristic scent and taste.
5 g of granules in a laminated foil (paper/aluminium/polyethylene) sachet packaged in a carton by 20, 50 or 100.
Not all pack sizes may be marketed.
