1. What Paracetamol-Grindeks is and what it is used for
Paracetamol-Grindeks is a fever-reducing analgesic. Indicated for fever and mild pain.
2. What you need to know before you use Paracetamol-Grindeks Do not use Paracetamol-Grindeks
- if you are allergic to paracetamol, codeine phosphate, other opiates, or any of the other ingredient(s) of this medicine (listed in section 6); - if you have a severe liver disorder; - if you have genetic glucose-6-phoaphate dehydrogenase deficiency.
Warnings and precautions
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using Paracetamol-Grindeks if you have any of these following diseases or conditions: - hepatic and/or renal function impairment; - Gilbert's syndrome (familial hyperbilirubinaemia); - alcoholism. Take into account that overdose risk is higher in patients with alcohol induced (including non cirrhotic) liver diseases. If the treatment lasts more than three days and symptoms persist, consult your doctor. Do not use this medication with other medicines containing paracetamol. Attention! Do not exceed the recommended dose. Paracetamol-Grindeks has low toxicity following single administration, however, in case of long-term and uncontrolled use dangerous side effects may occur.
Children
This kind of pharmaceutical form (tablets) is not suitable for children under 6 years of age due to their high active substance content.
Other medicines and Paracetamol-Grindeks
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using, have recently used or might use any other medicines. Inform your doctor, if you use any of the following medications, since these may have a reciprocal effect if administered together with paracetamol: - certain hypnotics and antiepileptic drugs (phenobarbital, phenytoin, carbamazepine); - rifampicin (antibiotic used to treat tuberculosis and other bacterial infections); - probenecid (medication for the treatment of gout); - chloramphenicol (antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections); - warfarin and other anticoagulants; - HIV infection medication zidovudine (concurrent administration of paracetamol and zidovudine is allowed with a doctor’s advice only); - metoclopramide and domperidone (antiemetics); - colestyramine (medication lowering blood cholesterol level); - imatinib (leukaemia medication).
Paracetamol-Grindeks with alcohol
Alcohol should be avoided during therapy with paracetamol. Chronic use of alcohol increases the risk of drug poisoning even if the therapeutic dose is not exceeded.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine. Research has shown that therapeutic doses will not induce any adverse effects. Avoid administration over long periods, in large quantities and combined with other medicines. Paracetamol is excreted into breast milk in clinically insignificant amounts. Current data does not contraindicate breast-feeding if the recommended doses are used over a short period of time.
Driving and using machines
This medication has no influence on the ability to drive or use machines.
3. How to use Paracetamol-Grindeks
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The Paracetamol-Grindeks tablet should be swallowed whole with a sufficient amount of water. Adults (including elderly patients): 1-2 tablets (0.5-1 g) as needed every 4 to 6 hours with a maximum of 8 tablets (4 g) in 24 hours, in divided doses.
Use in children
Children 6-12 years of age: 0.5-1 tablet (250-500 mg) every 6 to 8 hours with a maximum of 4 tablets (2 g) in 24 hours, in divided doses. Children over 12 years: 1-2 tablets (0.5-1 g) as needed every 4 to 6 hours with a maximum of 8 tablets (4 g) in 24 hours, in divided doses. You can discontinue the treatment once the patient is feeling better. If you feel that the effect of Paracetamol-Grindeks is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
If you use more Paracetamol-Grindeks than you should
Administration of more than 15 tablets is toxic to an adult. The symptoms of paracetamol overdose during the first 24 hours are paleness, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and abdominal pain. Liver damage may occur within 12 to 48 hours. Glucose metabolism perturbation and metabolic acidosis may occur. Severe intoxication may lead to encephalopathy and coma, followed by death. Severe renal insufficiency may develop even if the liver is not impaired. Cardiac arrhythmias and pancreatitis have also been reported. In case of paracetamol overdose and suspicion of overdose, it is essential to get immediate treatment. Despite lack of early symptoms ambulance should be called immediately. Provoke vomiting and administer activated charcoal. Refer to the doctor immediately if you develop the symptoms listed above or you suspect overdose. Take the medication package with you. Inform the doctor of the emergency measures used.
If you forget to use Paracetamol-Grindeks
If you forget to take the medication, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is already almost the time to take the next dose, skip the forgotten dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you stop using Paracetamol-Grindeks
Discontinuation after long-term administration in large quantities may cause headaches, fatigue, muscular pain, nervousness and vegetative symptoms. These symptoms will disappear in a few days. Do not administer analgesics again until the symptoms disappear, and do not continue the administration unless you have consulted with your doctor previously. If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Side effects of paracetamol, if taken in therapeutic doses, are mild and rare. Uncommon: (affects less than one user in 100) - Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) Rare: (affects less than one user in 1,000) - Liver damage (increased activity of liver enzymes), which may lead to liver insufficiency. - Exanthema - Urticaria - Rash Very rare: (affects less than one user in 10,000) - Thrombocytopenia (reduced platelet (thrombocyte) count) - Agranulocytosis The symptoms of agranulocytosis include high fever, chills, sore throat, difficulties swallowing, oral, nasal, pharyngeal, as well as genital and anal mucosa damage. In case of any worsening in general health condition or occurrence of painful mucosa damage (especially in the mouth, nose or throat), you should stop taking the medicine immediately and contact your doctor. - Allergic reactions - Anaphylaxis (severe life-threatening systemic allergic reaction) - Severe skin reactions have been noted very rarely.

5. How to store Paracetamol-Grindeks
Store below 25° C. Store in original package, protected from light and moisture. Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help to protect the environment.

What Paracetamol-Grindeks contains
- The active substance is paracetamol (Paracetamolum). Each tablet contains 500 mg of paracetamol. - The other ingredients are sodium starch glucolate (type A), povidone, stearic acid, magnesium stearate.

White or almost white, round, flat, smooth, bevelled-edge tablets with a scoring line on one side. 10 tablets in PVC/Al foil blister package. 2 blister packages (20 tablets) in carton box.
