1. What Oftagel is and what it is used for
Oftagel eye gel is used to alleviate complaints caused by the drying of the cornea. The main properties of eye drops intended for the alleviation of complaints caused by dry eyes include the effect that preserves the integrity of the tear film and good moisturising ability. To achieve these properties, Oftagel eye gel contains carbomer - a new, macromolecule, crosspolymer. Carbomer increases the viscosity of the eye drops and their contact time with the surface of the eye, and reduces irritation symptoms in the eye.
2. What you need to know before you use Oftagel Do not use Oftagel:
- when you are wearing soft contact lenses; - if you are allergic to carbomer 974P or any other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
Warnings and precautions
- Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Oftagel. - Remove hard contact lenses before administering the medicine and place the lenses back in the eyes 15 minutes after administration. - If you use different eye drops, keep 15 minutes between administering different drops and administer Oftagel last.
Children and adolescents
The safety and efficacy of Oftagel when used in the case of children and adolescents in the recommended dosage for adults has been proven with clinical experience, however data from clinical trials is not available.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility
Use of Oftagel during pregnancy or breast-feeding has not been studied. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby.
Driving and using machines
It is recommended to wait until the blurriness subsides before driving or using machines that require exact vision. Oftagel contains benzalkonium chloride Oftagel eye gel contains benzalkonium chloride, which may change the colour of soft contact lenses. You must therefore avoid the eye gel from coming into contact with soft contact lenses. Benzalkonium chloride may cause eye irritation.
3. How to use Oftagel
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The recommended dose of Oftagel eye gel is 1 drop in the eye 1—4 times a day as required.
Use in children and adolescents
The safety and efficacy of Oftagel when used in the case of children and adolescents in the recommended dosage for adults has been proven with clinical experience, however data from clinical trials is not available. 4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Transient blurred vision, light tingling and topical irritation may occur for a short time during the use of Oftagel eye gel. 5. How to store Oftagel
• Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. • Do not store at a temperature higher than 25 °C. Store the bottle in the outer package, protected from light. Storing the bottle in the outer package upside down will make it easier to drip the eye gel. • Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the label and on the outer package. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. • After the initial opening, the gel can be used for another 28 days. • Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.
6. Contents of the pack and other information What Oftagel contains
- The active substance is carbomer 974P. 1 gram of Oftagel eye gel contains 2.5 mg of carbomer 974P. - The other ingredients are benzalkonium chloride, sorbitol, lysine monohydrate, sodium acetate tri-hydrate, polyvinyl alcohol and water for injections.
What Oftagel looks like and contents of the pack
Transparent or slightly luminous viscous solution. Transparent plastic bottle (LDPE) with a white plastic screw cap (HDPE) that contains 10 g of eye gel.
