1. What Stoptussin Fyto is and what it is used for
If you do not feel better or if you feel worse 3 days (children) or 5 days (adults) after starting the treatment, contact your doctor. The syrup contains thyme, wild thyme (Thymus serpyllum) and plantago liquid extract and honey. This medicine is used as an aid in treating acute and chronic respiratory inflammations and loosening mucus. Without consulting a doctor, Stoptussin Fyto may be used by children above the age of 4, adolescents, and adults. Children aged 1-4 years may use this medicine only on the recommendation of a doctor. The use of this traditional herbal medicine is based only on long-term user experience.
2. What you need to know before you take Stoptussin Fyto
Do not take Stoptussin Fyto:
- if you are allergic to thyme, wild thyme, plantago or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6); - if you are allergic to plants in the deadnettle (Lamiaceae) family; - the medicine must not be given to children younger than 1 year.
Warnings and precautions
Children aged 1-4 may use this medicine only on the recommendation of a doctor. Take special care: - in the case of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrose-isomaltase deficiency. Consult your doctor before using this medicine; - if you experience shortness of breath, fever or purulent sputum or if the cough persists for more than a week. Talk to your doctor; - if you suffer from kidney or liver impairment, talk to your doctor or pharmacist; - if you suffer from excess acid in the stomach, gastritis or gastrointestinal ulcers, you may not use this medicine.
Children and adolescents
Cough treatment in children aged 1-4 years must take place only under the supervision of a doctor.
Other medicines and Stoptussin Fyto
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken, or might take any other medicines.
Pregnancy, breast-feeding, and fertility
There are no data on the effect in pregnant patients. It is not known whether the ingredients of Stoptussin Fyto syrup are excreted in breast milk. Use during pregnancy and breast-feeding is not recommended. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Driving and using machines
There are no data on the potential effect of Stoptussin Fyto on the ability to drive or use machines. However, considering its alcohol content, Stoptussin Fyto may have a negative effect on these activities for only 5 minutes following the administration of a recommended dose (15 ml).
Stoptussin Fyto contains sucrose and ethanol
If you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to some sugars, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine. The medicine contains 3.4% of ethanol (alcohol) by volume. If taken according to recommendations, 5 ml of syrup contains up to 0.14 g of ethanol, which equals 3.4 ml of beer (5% of ethanol by volume) and 1.4 ml of wine (12% of ethanol by volume); 15 ml of syrup contains up to 0.41 g of ethanol, which equals 10.2 ml of beer (5% of ethanol by volume) and 4.3 ml of wine (12% of ethanol by volume). Harmful for those suffering from alcoholism. This should be taken into account in pregnant or breast-feeding women, children and in high-risk groups, such as those with liver disease or epilepsy.
3. How to take Stoptussin Fyto
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The recommended dose is Children aged 1-4 years: 2.5-15 ml of syrup 3 times a day, after a meal (in order to avoid the loss of appetite) under the supervision of a doctor. Children aged 4-12 years: 2.5-15 ml of syrup 3 times a day, after a meal (in order to avoid the loss of appetite). Adolescents aged 12 years and up, adults, and the elderly: 15 ml 4 times a day at most. A measuring cup provided with the medicine is used for administration. Duration of use: Without consulting a doctor, Stoptussin Fyto should not be used for more than 10 days. Talk to your doctor if you do not feel better after 3 days (children) or 5 days (adults) after the beginning of treatment or if you feel worse or if you develop an unusual reaction.
If you take more Stoptussin Fyto than you should
If you may have taken more Stoptussin Fyto than prescribed, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
If you forget to take Stoptussin Fyto
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you stop taking Stoptussin Fyto
The discontinuation of treatment does not cause any consequences. If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
4. Possible side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. If used at the recommended dose, the medicine is tolerated well. However, if you experience any side effects, talk to your doctor of pharmacist. In very rare cases, hypersensitivity reactions (e.g. shortness of breath, skin rash, hives, as well as swelling of the face, mouth and throat and anaphylactic shock) or gastrointestinal disorders (spasms, nausea, vomiting) have been observed. Nausea and vomiting may occur in the case of large doses that strongly exceed the recommended dose.

5. How to store Stoptussin Fyto
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Do not store at a temperature higher than 25 °C. Store in the original pack, protected from light. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.
6. Contents of the pack and other information What Stoptussin Fyto contains
- The active substances are thyme liquid extract, wild thyme liquid extract and plantago liquid extract. 1 ml of syrup contains: Thymus vulgaris L., herba or Thymus zygis L., herba (thyme) liquid extract (1:1.11) 41.624 mg. The extract solvent is 25% (V/V) ethanol. Thymus serpyllum L., herba (wild thyme) liquid extract (1:1.2) 41.630 mg. The extract solvent is 25% (V/V) ethanol. Plantago lanceolata L. s.l., herba (plantago) liquid extract (1:1.1) 41.666 mg. The extract solvent is 34% (V/V) ethanol. - The other ingredients are honey, sodium benzoate (E211), sucrose, glycerol 85%, ethanol 96% and purified water.
What Stoptussin Fyto looks like and contents of the pack
A brown thyme-flavoured syrup in a brown 100 ml glass bottle with a white polypropylene cap. A slight blur may develop in time, which does not impair the effect of this medicine. A polypropylene (1.25-10 ml graduated) measuring cup is provided in the pack. Pack size: 100 ml.
