Дозировка: 1-2 капли в неделю.

1 What is Cacicol®?

CACICOL® is an ophthalmic solution used to promote corneal tissue repair.

CACICOL® belongs to the ReGeneraTing Agent (RGTA®) family that enhances both the speed and quality of tissue healing.

CACICOL® triggers the regeneration of damaged tissues for enhanced healing and makes it possible to delay or avoid a more invasive surgical procedure.

CACICOL® is an easy and ready-to-use solution.

2 When do I use Cacicol®?

CACICOL® is intended for the management of corneal wound healing on the eye, such as persistent epithelial defects, neurotrophic keratitis and in persistent anterior corneal dystrophies with associated-pain.

Definition of Persistant Epithelial Defect (PED) and Neurotrophic Keratitis (NK):

These are serious conditions which require diagnosis and treatment by an ophthalmologist.

PED: Very slow healing of corneal wounds or failure to heal with standard treatments, sometimes with recurrence of the impairment.

NK: Major healing difficulties caused by loss of corneal sensitivity potentially resulting in corneal perforation.

(When local treatments fail, these conditions often require major surgery, a graft or long-term treatment).

3 How does it work?

A corneal ulcer normally heals with conventional therapies in few days.
When there is a delay or recurrent occurrence of this ulcer despites the best management, it is called chronic or persistent ulcer on the cornea. With its RGTA® technology and innovative mode of action, CACICOL® can be used to effectively treat these kind of chronic and persistent corneal wound-healing disorders, such as persistent epithelial defects, neurotrophic ulcers and persistent corneal dystrophies with associated pain.

4 What is the dosage regimen?

Cacicol® is used at a dosage regimen of one to two drops once a week until complete re-epithelization.

The dosage can be adjusted by the ophthalmologist.

The length of your course of treatment may vary depending on how quickly you heal.

(More frequent use than prescribed may compromise Cacicol® healing effect).

5 How to use Cacicol®?

  • Wash your hands thoroughly before using the product,
  • Open the aluminum bag,
  • Take one unit dose from the strip and close carefully the aluminium bag,
  • Open the unit dose,
  • Introduce one to two drops into the eye to be treated while looking up and pulling the lower eyelid down slightly,
  • Avoid touching the eye and eyelids with the dropper tip of the unit dose container,
  • Discard the unit dose container after use. Do not keep it for subsequent use.

6 How long do I have to use Cacicol®?

Cacicol® is used at a dosage regimen of one to two drops once a week until complete re-epithelization. The ophthalmologist should adapt the posology and the length.

7 If I have another treatment to instill?

If you need to instil any other treatments, apply Cacicol® first and wait at least 15 minutes before applying another product.

Inform your ophthalmologist if you are taking or have recently taken any other topical ophthalmic products, including products obtained without prescription.

8 If I have to instill much more drops than indicated in the leaflet?

If needed, the common dosage can be adjusted according to your ophthalmologist. (More frequent use than prescribed may compromise Cacicol® healing effect).

9 Can I reuse a Single Dose of Cacicol® that I did not finish?

We recommend discarding the opened unit dose container with any remaining solution after first use immediately. Do not keep it for subsequent use.

10 What is the tolerance of the product?

At a dosage of 1 to 2 drop/week, Cacicol® provides an excellent local and general tolerance. Cacicol® is a preservative-free, sterile solution.

11 What are the interactions with other products?

  • Do not use with local antibiotics belonging to aminoglycosides such as neomycin or gentamicin.
  • Do not use with solutions containing silver salts, iodine, or copper (ions can complex the molecule).

If you need to instil any other treatments, apply Cacicol® first and wait at least 15 minutes before applying another product.

In any case, ask to your physician or pharmacist for any requests

12 What are the side effects?

At a dosage of 1 to 2 drops/week, Cacicol® provides an excellent local and general tolerance. Cacicol® is a preservative-free, sterile solution.

Nevertheless, in patient sensitive to heparinoids or heparin, they could feel a local reaction that should not compromise the healing effect. If the reaction is too strong, stop the treatment and contact your ophthalmologist as soon as possible.

No other adverse effects have been reported for Cacicol®

13 How do I store Cacicol® before use?

Cacicol® is stored between 4 and 25°C (room temperature)

After opening use immediately the eye drop, then discard the opened unit dose container with any remaining solution. Do not keep it for subsequent use. Keep the unopened single-dose containers in the aluminum bag to protect them from direct light.

14 Can I buy it without prescription?

Cacicol® is an ophthalmic medical device European approved and it could be purchased without prescription. Nevertheless, due to the importance of the disease and the patient follow-up (efficacy, tolerance, dosage regimen modification), we recommend to use it after medical advice or prescription.
